On 17 January 1989, Nysted Halmvarmeværk was inaugurated by the politician Sven-Erik Hovmand. On the same day, Øster Toreby and Væggerløse were inaugurated, all known as the Difko works.

"A gilded Høgreb" was received as a gift for the 3 works, today it hangs at the Øster Toreby work.

Nysted straw heating plant got "The golden straw stand" for hanging.

The first consumer was supplied with heat in October 1988.
